Information regarding the tests of consumer products

We inform you that from 27 December 2015 the requirements for using the harmful substances in consumer products made of plastics or rubber were stringed by the Regulation of European Commission  (EC) No. 1272/2013, replacing the Regulation  (EC) No. 1907/2006 – REACH. The limitation concerns Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons – PAHs, in German Polyzyklische Aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe – PAK, classified, according to the Regulation  (EC) No. 1272/2008 – CLP, as the carcinogenic substances of 1B Category. The following substances belong to this group: Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP), Benzo[e]pyrene (BeP), Benzo[a]anthracene (BaA), Chrysene (CHR), Benzo[b] fluoranthene (BbFA), Benzo[j]fluoranthene (BjFA), Benzo[k]fluoranthene (BkFA), Di-benzo[a,h]anthracene (DBAhA).

Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) Chrysene (CHR)

The following items belong to products mentioned in the Regulation of European Commission  (EC) No. 1272/2013,:

  • sporting equipment such as: bikes, golf Clubs, rackets,
  • household articles, strollers, walking frames,
  • household tools,
  • clothes, shoes, gloves and sportswear,
  • watch belts,
  • wristbands and head bands ,
  • masks and toys.

KOMAG’s Laboratory of Material Engineering and Environment extended the scope of accredited tests by analysis of content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in plastic and rubber products to enable manufacturers, importers and suppliers meeting the new requirements.

New scope of accreditation of KOMAG’s Laboratory of Material Engineering and Environment– AB 910, obtained on 18.04.2016, covers determination of content of benzene and flame retardants such as tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate – TCEP, tris (1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate  – TCPP, tris(2-chloro-1-(chloromethyl)ethyl phosphate – TDCP as well as migration of Bisphenol A.

Requirements concerning determination of TCEP, TCPP, TDCP and Bisphenol A were introduced by the Directive of the European Commission No. 2014/79/EC replacing the Directive No. 2009/48/EC – Toy Safety Directive (TSD).

We invite you to take a chance of testing your products according to the extended offer of our Laboratory of Material Engineering and Environment, the notified body within Directive No. 2009/48/EC.
