Act of 27th April 2001 “Environmental protection law” (OJ of 2001 No. 62 item 627 with amendments) obliges the manufacturers of electric and electronic equipment to limit an application of substances potentaially hazardous to the environment during the period of its use and after its disposal.

The above-mentioned obligation is detailed in the Regulation by Minister of Economy of 10th May 2013 (OJ of 2013, item 547), which implements decisions of the Directive RoHS 2011/65/EU (so called RoHS II) and introduces a use prohibition of hazardous sunstances, such as:

  • lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium (VI),
  • polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE),
  • di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) , benzyl, butyl phthalate (BBP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP) , diisobutyl phthalate (DBP).

Facing needs connected with documenting that products meet requirements given above, the KOMAG Laboratory of Material Engineering and Environment offers accredited tests of those hazardous substances in electrical and electronic devices, within the accreditation No. AB 910 of the Polish Centre for Accreditation.

In the scope of accredited material tests KOMAG Laboratory of Material Engineering and Environment performs among others:
  • analysis of the chemical composition of steel and cast iron products to check a type of material,
  • metal products' hardness and thickness measurement,
  • protective coatings' roughness and thickness measurement,
  • assessment of corrosion resistance of metal products, protective coatings and welded joints,
  • mass increase and decrease measurement,
  • ageing tests.

The above-mentioned scope of tests is used by the Laboratory for:
  • a verification of products' quality for conformity with tender documentation, steel attests, standards and other technical requirements,
  • an evaluation of technical condition and wear degree of machine elements and devices within periodical and interventional surveys as well as allowing for exploitation approvals.

  • safety and functionality of machines and equipment.

equipment for measurements and tests

  • sixteen-channel recorder of quick-changing parameters (up to 1 MHz recording frequency) manufactured by YOKOGAWA,
  • sixteen-channel recorder of quick-changing parameters up to 100 kHz manufactured by HBM.

The tests were made according to the customer requirements.

scope of the tests

  • measurements of flow rate and pressure in hydraulic and pneumatic systems,
  • fatigue tests (e.g. of seals).

equipment for measurements and tests

  • oil unit with a possibility of changing the operational pressure up to 32 MPa and with adjustable efficiency,
  • emulsion unit with a possibility of changing the operational pressure up to 30 MPa,
  • set of pressure sensors,
  • compressor of pressure up to 13 bars and output  up to 8 m3/h.

The Laboratory of Applied Tests, aiming at continuous improvement and development of its services, has started testing the electronic equipment as regards thermal shock. Thermal shock tests are carried out in the Thermal Shock Test Chamber of the following parameters:

  • temperature range of “hot” chamber: (40 ÷ 220) °C,
  • temperature range of “cold” chamber: (-80 ÷ 60) °C,
  • time for moving the testing object between the chambers: < 10 s.

The result of thermal shock test of electronic equipment is valuable information for the manufacturer. It enables to verify design assumptions as regards real conditions of using the given equipment and to avoid high costs associated with potential damages and complaints. We hope that our offer will meet your expectations.
