Underground storage

Kłeczek Z. Radomski A. Zeljaś D.

Summary:

Underground storage as elements of environmental engineering are widespread in many developed countries all over the world. The cost analysis of construction and operating of underground storage yards showed the high effectiveness of these investments in comparison with the traditional surface facilities, even if strategic, military and environ- mental issues are not taken into consideration.
In the raport the underground storing of liquid energy carriers (fuels) is briefly described, mainly in salt deposits and porous media. Practical instructions of designing and constructing warehouses are presented, with emphasis on their geomechanical stability.
