The Laboratory of Material Engineering and Environment conducts tests according to the Quality Management System, meeting the requirements of PN-EN ISO 9001:2001 Standard, certified by the Polish Centre for Testing and Certification, J.S.C.

The scope of tests is as follows:

  • chemical constitution of steel and cast iron products, using the methods of atomic, emission spectrometry and absorption in the infrared,
  • resistance to corrosion of metals and protective coatings, using the accelerated method in the atmosphere of salt mist,
  • hardness of metal products, using Brinell, Rockwell, Vickers and VCI methods.

The Management System according to PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005, implemented in the Laboratory guarantees reliability, credibility and quality of performed material tests and a confidentiality of obtained results.

Replying to the market demand, the following activities are under development:

  • non-destructive tests using visual, magnetic and powder as well as ultrasonic methods,
  • quality tests of protective coatings,

which are connected with quality tests of materials within the scope, among others:

  • quality conformity assessments of steel and cast iron products with material certificates,
  • determination of steel and cast iron grade,
  • assessments of coating quality, including a degree of their corrosive damage.

The Laboratory also conducts research and development projects and performs tests in the domain of environmental engineering and safe use of products.

The scope of offered tests includes:

  • an analysis of physical and chemical constitution of industrial wastes, water and sewage, including a determination of heavy metals,
  • testing of waste susceptibility to washing out,
  • testing of a product usage safety (acc. to 88/378/EWG Directive) incorporating, among others, mechanical and physical properties, flammability and a migration of elements.

The Laboratory personnel's qualifications are verified during their regular participation in inter-laboratory comparative tests, organized by the members of the POLLAB Club of Polish Laboratories within the framework of the agreement with the Polish Centre for Accreditation. The Laboratory takes an active part in testing and research activities of the Division of Material Tests, the Division of Environmental Protection and of the Divisions: Machines, Equipment and Means of Transport.
